Unique projectile that delivers exceptional terminal performance on soft tissue.Įxtremely accurate and effective on small game, but it can have problems feeding in an AR. You might consider adding the following projectiles: Hornady 150gr FMJBT - My favorite because they are relatively cheap in bulk ($0.17 each in 2100ct bulk or $0.19 each for 250ct) and I've already got them for my. I'm going to list a few that I think represent this category. I presume that most people use Limbos in 300 Blackout for practical reasons outside of ballistics: because they have them on hand (from shooting other 30 cal cartridges) or because they can get them really cheap. Therefore, I call them "Limbos" because they're not really well qualified for either "uses" of 300 Blackout: Supersonic (for Hunting and Self Defense) and Subsonic (cycling AR reliably and ultra-quietly with heavy, accurate projectile). And, with the loss of velocity that comes in exchange for firing a heavier projectile, bullet expansion becomes less and less probable. Once you get above 130gr, muzzle energy (Force = Mass x (Velocity x Velocity) tends to drop drastically. All other things being equal, the optimal weight for 300 Blackout bullets is approximately 110gr-130gr. I am calling this category "Limbos" due to their inherent nature in relation to 300 Blackout. I'm 99% sure these are the projectiles in Remington's Hog Hammer 300 Blackout ammo. Paying a premium for something that won't benefit my setup is pointless. Part # 52165 Optimal Price: $30 (50 count = $0.60 each)Įxpensive.the expensive bonded lead/jacket is probably unnecessary in 300 Blackout because of the relatively low velocity. (Polymer Tip, Copper Jacket + Bonded Lead core) It'd better have marginally better performance than the Hornady SST et al. Getting expensive (2/3 the cost of Barnes Tac-Tx) but should be a quality hunting round. (Copper Jacket, Soft "Spire" Point, Lead Core) Quality hunting projectile, not exactly a Barnes Tac-Tx but less than 1/2 the cost. (Polymer Tip, "Match" Copper jacket, Lead Core) Thanks to Sierra, we have a match bullet designed specifically for the 300 Blackout. (Thin Copper Jacket, Open Tipped Match, Lead Core) Reports of above-par accuracy & good performance on varmints mixed with a sub-$0.20 price (in 500ct bulk) make it a staple commodity for the cartridge. (Hollow Cavity in Tip with Striations designed to violently expand & fragment, lead core) The new darling of 300 Blackout reloading. (Polymer Tip, Thin copper jacket, lead core) (Polymer Tip, Copper Jacketed, Swaged lead with cavity under tip) Considered by most to be the golden (or copper) standard of 300 Blackout projectiles. Good expansion, even out of short barrels. I'm grouping them into 3 categories: Supersonic (110gr-130gr), "Limbos" (131gr-199gr), and Subsonic (200gr+) Please send me a message or reply if there is any information I need to correct, omit or add. I wanted to put together a rudimentary list of the commonly used reloading bullets for 300 Blackout.
